I'm looking forward to more pictures - hopefully both completed car and the vehicle in action too.
Just got these pix of the completed car. The fiberglass bodywork only weighs 7 pounds and looks great.

Randy and his son have come up with the name 'Interceptor'.
(6/18/01) - Just got this info from Randy today!
Believe it or not we finely built a transmission that works (it's heavy but it works). We've even made it to a couple of races. I can't believe how much fun this type of racing is. Michael says "It's the best thing I've ever done in my life". He seems to be making the transition from Go Kart racing to Stadium racing pretty well.
He needs to learn to throw the car around and use the power to his advantage. Something he didn't have in Karts. The car still wants to land nose first (not to sure how much is the driver and how much is the car), so for moms sake I told him to keep the altitude down. The first race went better than I could of hoped. Not only did we make it through both practices and both races but we finished second in the heat and second in the main. WOW I couldn't believe it. With the exception of bending two rear trailing arms and the gearing being way off the car worked great.
The second race we weren't so lucky. We ran well in the two practices sessions except for a guy in a Pilot doing a major endo/flip/roll kinda thing right in front of Michael on the first practices. Michael missed him somehow and the driver was ok except for his legs being beat up by the plastic wire ties holding wires and cables onto the frame. (Important safety note turn the joint on the wire ties up so your legs won't hit them.)
In the second practice Michael put down a killer pass on the front straight passing two cars at once before the first turn. It was so cool!! Anyway I thought the car was working pretty well since one of the cars (Pilot) he passed was setup by ATV Racing. It had all of the cool stuff and was quick.
One thing that I've learned so far is that the Pilots are light weight and our car is heavy. So we seem to be a little slow off the line.
We put a new driven clutch (Artic Cat Roller) on the car before the race and it worked well in practice but in the first race the clutch stuck in high gear (sort of). When we got back to the pits we took the clutch apart and found that the spring (yellow) popped out of the hole and there was no tension on the helix, so we fixed that. Michael was complaining that the car didn't want to turn left. So I checked out the steering and found nothing wrong.
Now it was time for the main. Michael got a great start. He was second right behind the Pilot that he passed in practice. I thought this was going to be a good race. Well that only lasted for about four laps and he started to slow down. The clutch started to stick in high gear again. He kept going and managed to pull out a third place finish (only because everybody behind him was having more trouble than he was) but we'll take it anyway.
We found the problem with the steering after the race. The problem wasn't the steering but a broken CV joint. I think we had to much droop that allowed the axle to wipe out the retainer and let all of the balls fall out of the CV. So all in all I feel pretty good that we even finished the race at all.
Anyway here are some pix of the car during practices at the last race in Imperial.

Here's the 'Wasp' in it's finished trim. It's powered by a 600 cc Rotax. On the first test runs, it saw 90 + mph. Ken also says that the suspension soaks up everything he's thrown at it so far.

This is from Nico Demopoulos.
I'm in Melboure, Victoria (Australia) just down the road from Bob's (Rorty Autos - pix above) place. I've been building this custom buggy for the past year. It started as a XRV (The Edge) style buggy but I soon started modifiying bits and soon it be came a full custom buggy. I built a Sidewinder back in 97 and that gave me the interest to make something better. The motor is out of a Yamaha XT600 ZU. Tenere' the buggy weighs approx 280kg. and most parts on the buggy I've made.
Once finished I'm joining Torq Racing Club, which Bob is a member, and hopefully have some fun. I'm a surfboard manufacturer so working with my hands comes easy. Hopefully a few months and it will be finished.
